About Benson & Gray

An atelier for difficult enterprise problems.

A boutique practice built around complex problems and a genuine standard of care — the kind of professional practice the modern consulting market has largely forgotten.

Tanja Gray

Managing Director & Principal Architect

Tanja has spent her career on the enterprise problems that sit between systems — integration, workforce and payroll data, architecture, and the fragile processes that quietly keep organisations running.

Her favourite work is the kind that doesn't fit the standard implementation playbook: the integration with a race condition nobody documented, the workbook that has become production infrastructure, the process where a person is acting as middleware between three platforms.

She founded Benson & Gray on a simple conviction: that clients should leave an engagement stronger than when it began — with systems that work, documentation that's genuinely useful, and people who understand what was built and why.

Every engagement receives a boutique level of care: craftsmanship in the work you see, and the same attention to detail in the joins you don't.

“That's not a people problem. That's a systems problem.”

AI can do remarkable things, and so can Dante. The possibilities really are boundless — you can even make your executive assistant absurdly good-looking. Sorry, ladies: he's not real.

AI Executive Assistant

Meet Dante E. Benson

AI — not a person

Dante brings structure, insight and quiet momentum to Benson & Gray, ensuring nothing falls through the cracks and everything moves forward with purpose.

Dante is an AI agent, not a member of staff, director or partner. He works behind the scenes; every recommendation, decision and deliverable is owned and signed off by a person, never by AI alone. If you correspond with Dante, you are corresponding with AI, and his signature will always say so.

Part of the firm from the start. Dante began as a carefully refined AI assistant behind our business-analysis work. Having seen what a well-built, dedicated AI agent adds to a business, we gave him a name and a place in the brand. Benson & Gray may sound like an old London firm, but it’s built for what comes next.

What Dante does today

  • Structuring discovery evidence and business analysis
  • Drafting documents, summaries and options for review
  • Researching and comparing products, patterns and approaches

Coming next

  • Acknowledging and routing enquiries
  • Coordinating meeting times
  • Tracking actions and follow-ups across engagements

What the name stands for.

Three words sit under the logo. They're not a slogan — they're how the work is judged.

People

Relationships built on curiosity, generosity and genuine connection. Interested before interesting. Trust is treated as stewardship, never leverage.

Solutions

An uncompromising technical standard — including the joins nobody sees: architecture, testing, failure handling, documentation and handover.

Empowerment

Capability, not dependency. Clients keep control of their solutions and leave more capable than when we arrived.

Capability, not dependency

Four hours of handover. One integration in production.

A client with a partly built integration wanted their own in-house developer to finish it, and asked us only for architecture and guidance. So that's exactly what we provided: two walkthrough sessions of about two hours each, transferring the architectural intent to their developer.

For the final components we provided pseudocode and implementation guidance rather than finished code. The developer built them, tested them through the secondary environment, and deployed the completed integration to production — and the client's team owned it from day one.

That's empowerment in practice. If you'd rather grow the capability of your own team, we'll work alongside them to get there: sharing the architecture, the reasoning and the know-how, with quality checkpoints along the way. We don't hoard knowledge. We hand it over.

The most valuable gifts you can give another person are your time and your knowledge.Tanja Gray

Working principles

The standard behind the name.

Technical excellence is necessary. Trustworthiness is non-negotiable. These are the principles every engagement is held to — and the standard expected of everyone who works on a Benson & Gray engagement, and every partner we recommend.

I

Honest about availability.

We keep our commitments few so each one gets our full attention. If we can't start straight away, we'll say so plainly and tell you when we can.

II

Discovery is a deliverable.

The Atlas has independent value before any implementation begins.

III

New needs become roadmap, not scope creep.

We capture them respectfully and price them separately.

IV

Documentation must work after we leave.

Useful artefacts beat decorative slide decks, every time.

V

Teach generously.

Knowledge transfer is part of quality, not an optional extra.

VI

Integrity and care are non-negotiable.

For everyone who works on a Benson & Gray engagement, and every partner we recommend, technical brilliance alone isn't enough to carry the name.

Trusted partners

When we're not the right fit, we'll say so — and introduce someone who is.

We don't need to keep every piece of work. Our job is to recommend the right path for you — which might be no further work, your own team delivering, or a trusted partner better suited to routine configuration, ongoing support or a specialist capability.

How we choose who we recommend

  • Proven capabilityValidated first-hand — not on the strength of a logo or a sales pitch.
  • A shared standard of careMeaningful documentation, genuine knowledge transfer, no manufactured dependency.
  • IntegrityThey protect your data, systems, time and commercial interests as we would.
  • The right fit for youCapacity, domain experience and culture suited to your organisation and your problem.
  • Clean conflictsConflict and suitability checks are completed before any introduction is made.
Our recommendations are based on your need and delivery fit — never on a commercial arrangement.Independence first

Where a referral or collaboration arrangement exists with a partner, we tell you upfront and document it. You always know who is doing the work, why they were recommended, and on what terms.

The Discovery Compass is independent by design: the Atlas recommends what's right for you, whoever delivers it.

The goal is not to become the consultancy you can't escape. It's to become the one you choose again.
